Can I get my personal information removed from search results?
Sometimes. Removing the page at its source works best; search engines also take requests for certain sensitive or outdated details.
Sometimes, and it helps to understand how search works. Search engines show pages that exist elsewhere. Removing a result from search does not delete the page itself, and deleting the page eventually removes it from search.
Start at the source
Ask the site owner or data broker to remove the content. Once it is gone, request that the search engine refresh its copy so the outdated snippet disappears.
Requests search engines often accept
- Personal contact details such as home address or phone shown without consent
- Financial or identity document numbers
- Intimate images shared without consent
- Pages that no longer exist but still appear
Set expectations
Newsworthy or official public records are rarely removed. Results under your name can also be pushed down by creating accurate profiles you control. Rights vary by country; this is general information, not legal advice. See data broker opt-outs.
